Storm Gertrude   Leave a comment

I was going to publish a drawing commission over on http://www.shadedfaces.wordpress.com today, one that I completed just recently, but I changed my mind when the morning twilight and the dark skies of storm Gertrude presented us with a special treat. They were seen at numerous locations in the north of Scotland today and I later found out that this is a nacreous, or mother-of-pearl cloud, formed high up in the stratosphere which normally has no clouds because it is too cold.

Crocus   –   I know it’s early days and we have another cold spell waiting at the door, but right now the sun is out and we can dream….

Primula vulgaris   –   Nearly into February now, so we should see these primroses soon. I for one will be glad to see the back of the cold, wet and dreary winter days, even if I didn’t get to build my snowman this year 🙂

It briefly said hello this morning and I just caught it before it disappeared behind a grey shroud, for the rest of the day, presumably, so not a particularly artistic shot. It may not always be colourful, but it is always spectacular and humbling, and I am grateful for each single time I am allowed to see it.  I hope your start into 2015 was merry and your outlook good for the next three hundred plus days and beyond. If you can find some spare minutes here and there in your busy schedules I would appreciate your company on my journey through this new year.
